The name is Spanish for \"yarrow,\" the wildflower that turns up along vineyard paths throughout Rioja, a fitting emblem for a project built on unfussy, place\u003cbr\u003edriven wines rather than cellar pyrotechnics. Rioja Oriental is the region's warmest, most Mediterranean sub zone, which makes the site selection here the whole story. These vineyards sit at 300–500 meters on clay limestone soils with heavy surface gravel, altitude and stony ground that hold onto acidity and keep the wine taut where lower lying Oriental fruit can turn broad. Vinification is clean and modern but deliberately unobtrusive, on hand harvested fruit. Grapes are chilled on arrival, briefly macerated on skins before pressing, then fermented cool. All stainless steel, no oak. The blend is Viura and Tempranillo Blanco, the latter a natural mutation of red Tempranillo only authorized in Rioja since 2007, with proportions shifting by vintage.
