By Kimich

This wonderfully traditional winery was established in 1758; Franz and his son Matthias represent the seventh and eighth generation here. The estate/s holdings currently consist of 26 hectares of vineyards in Deidesheim, Forst and Ruppertsberg, picturesque villages which lie in the shadow of the Mittelhaardt mountain range, and constitute the great winemaking heart of the Pfalz. Soils are a fantastic mix of geologies, primarily sandstone (bundsandstein) but also basalt boulders, lime and layers of loess and clay, contributing to the complexity and variety of the wines made here. The 200-year-old cellar includes large old barrels as well as modern stainless tanks used for the younger, fresher cuvées.

Deidesheimer Herrgottsacker is a single vineyard site, southeast facing. Kimich owns 1.5ha in ten little parcels. 10% of the vineyard site is steep, 20% hilly and 70% is flat. The soil varies between sandy loam and loamy sand, mixed with limestone rocks and red sandstone. The name “Herrgottsacker” is probably derived from the word “Gottesacker” which is a former word for cemetery. In 1491 it was the first time that this vineyard name “Herrgottsacker” was named in the town's archive.

This Kimich Dry Kabinett is a liter of the raciest, most energetic and appealingly mineralische Riesling imaginable. The must weight far exceeds Kabinett requirements, but the wine remains light and buoyant. A crisp, quenching, vital dry wine for all uses and occasions.
