Unico Zelo Halcyon Days Nero d'Avola

Brendan and Laura Carter started Unico Zelo with the idea of making honest Australian wines in a globally relevant way. They dry-farm their vineyards in a harsh environment, in an attempt to make quality wines that buck the trend of mass produced Australian wines. The couple has studied viticulture and agriculture, and worked in wineries in Australia, France, and Italy.

Nero d'Avola is a native grape to Sicily and is absolutely at home year after year in Riverland, as it’s able to achieve a balanced level of ripeness. Really lovely sweet nutmeg and baking spice aromatics, with a woody, cedary undercurrent, backed up by these bright punchy blue and brambly black fruits. Great mineral drive this year, salty acid line framed by crispy tannins. As always, chill it down - it’ll be great with charcuterie this year or even pepperoni pizza! It has always been a party wine, and it continues to be.
