By Mocali

The Mocali estate has a strong history of grape growing in the town of Montalcino. In 1967, then owner Dino Ciacci was one of 25 growers that banded together to form a consortium that established the standards by which fine wine in Montalcino was produced. Today, that same consorzio has over 200 members. Dino’s grandson Tiziano is currently in charge of the estate, with 20 hectares of land in Montalcino and 20 hectares in Maremma in western Tuscany. Mocali wines are produced traditionally, aging in large Slavonian oak casks, meaning there is less oak influence than some producers using smaller and younger barrels. This wine is aged for a minimum of 3 years in barrel before being bottled. It features aromas of raspberry and cherry, with subtle notes of mint and chocolate. It is full bodied on the palate with ripe tannins.
