Saint Cosme Saint-Joseph 2021

Château de Saint Cosme is one of the Rhône Valley’s most respected and historic estates, with roots going back to the 1400s and 14 generations of winemaking in the Barruol family. The Saint-Joseph bottling is a beautiful showcase of cool-climate Syrah at its finest—more refined and lifted than its southern siblings, but with no shortage of power. Sourced from steep granite hillsides, the grapes are fermented with whole clusters and native yeasts, then aged in a mix of used oak barrels to preserve purity and texture. In the glass, this wine is a study in balance—dense and dark-fruited, yet perfumed and lively. It opens with aromas of crushed blackberries, violets, and black olive, then unfolds into savory notes of cured meat, pepper, and forest floor. The texture is smooth and polished, with just enough grip to pair beautifully with dishes like grilled lamb, mushroom risotto, or charred eggplant. It’s a thoughtful wine that reflects both its northern Rhône origin and the deep expertise of the Saint Cosme team. Paired with: Gruyère and some olive tapenade on the side.
