Eruptio White Blend
This wine comes from the Portuguese island of Pico in the Azores island chain. Pico also is home to Portugal's highest mountain. The island is covered in volcanic soil, and grapes are grown close to the ground, protected by the wind by walls of stacked volcanic rocks. The grapes come from all over Pico and the resulting wine reflects the different varieties, sun exposure, and diversity of the volcanic soils. The grapes were fully destemmed before being pressed. The different varieties are individually aged in stainless steel vats and aged on fine lees for 6 months. Greenish-yellow color. Aroma of ripe citrus and tropical fruits on a background of seaweed, reminiscent of the sea breeze in a volcanic environment. This wine is round with a vibrant acidity and a saline finish.
