Bonny Doon Central Coast Picpoul

$19.00

Soon after establishing Bonny Doon Vineyard in California’s Central Coast, Randall Grahm realized early on that he would have more success creating distinctive and original wines working with Rhône varieties than with Burgundy grapes. As in the Rhône valley, the Central Coast’s warm, Mediterranean climate produces excellent blended wines. Bonny Doon released their first release of Le Cigare Volant in 1986 as an homage to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a red blend that remains the winery’s flagship wine. Bonny Doon Vineyard has since been an innovative leader in American wine, most notably in championing Rhône grapes in California, using screwcaps for premium wines, and pushing for transparency on wine bottle labeling. This Picpoul was grafted onto a Grenache Blanc vineyard in 2020, and this is the first vintage they produced the wine. Scents of white flowers with a hint of pineapple. But while the scent of Picpoul is subtle, one is forcefully struck by the wine’s bracing acidity and its unique savoriness (who’s you-mami?).
