Landhaus Mayer Grüner Veltliner

$20.00

Landhaus Mayer is the label of Weingut Mayer am Pfarrplatz, the historic Viennese estate that has been making wine within the city limits since 1683. The bottling grows out of a cooperation between the estate and a group of family growers across Niederösterreich (Lower Austria). Many of the sites had been at risk of abandonment and this cooperative has kept them active. Under production manager Gerhard J. Lobner, the estate works alongside these growers from pruning through harvest, with the stated aim of keeping those older sites alive and in careful hands.

The 2025 is entirely Grüner Veltliner, drawn from the region's fluvial, gravel-laced soils, where cool air and stony ground give the grape its characteristic tension. It pours a bright green/gold and opens with the variety's signature snap: white pepper and grapefruit up front, backed by green apple, pear, and a lift of fresh meadow herbs. The palate is unforced and medium in weight, citrus and orchard fruit carried on a clean line of acidity, with a gravelly, almost saline minerality running underneath. The finish is crisp, peppery, and lively.
