Tiefenbrunner Pinot Grigio

The estate in Niclara (Entiklar) is among the oldest in Alto Adige: it has belonged to the family since 1675 and has been a winery since 1848, housed in the historic Castel Turmhof manor, whose grounds have been cultivated with vines since at least 1225. Today Christof Tiefenbrunner and his wife Sabine lead the estate, blending long tradition with innovation across roughly 25 hectares of family vineyards plus purchased fruit. The Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT is a broad geographic indication covering the Trentino/Alto Adige area, an Alpine landscape sculpted by glaciers and mountain streams. The vines grow mainly on south-facing slopes around Castel Turmhof, on loamy, chalk-rich soils, and more broadly the region’s soils are built on dolomitic limestone and glacial or alluvial gravel, sand, and clay, not fertile, but light and well-drained. Cold winters give way to near Mediterranean summer days, moderated by cool night breezes rising up the valley from Lake Garda, and that day/night swing heightens the flavor, aroma, and floral lift you look for in Pinot Grigio.
