Torre Mora Scalunera Etna Bianco

$37.00

Mount Etna is Europe's largest and most active volcano, a near-constantly erupting stratovolcano rising over 3,300 meters above sea level on the eastern coast of Sicily. Unlike the extinct volcanoes of Tokaji, Etna is very much alive, producing lava flows and ash deposits that continuously reshape the vineyard landscape. Etna's soils are among the most distinctive in the wine world: loose, free-draining black volcanic ash and weathered basalt, exceptionally young in geological terms (some flows only hundreds of years old), low in nutrients, and extraordinarily rich in minerals. Carricante on Etna produces whites of remarkable tension and structure. Scalunera opens with bright citrus, white stone fruit, and a vivid thread of volcanic minerality, chalk, smoke, and crushed basalt. The palate is lean and focused, driven by the variety's naturally high acidity and shaped by the porous volcanic soils that prevent any softness or roundness from developing.
